The revised criteria are based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2007 recommendation to use the Biotic Ligand Model to derive site-specific criteria based on the water chemistry of a site that affects the bioavailability and toxicity of copper to aquatic life in fresh waters. - Address EPA’s Jan. 31, 2013 disapproval of Oregon’s current copper criteria in response to a National Marine Fisheries Service Biological Opinion that concluded the current criteria would jeopardize threatened and endangered species.
