Subject: Newberg COVID Closure
Good morning everyone,
It is with some sadness that I have to send this message. We are seeing COVID cases and quarantine
from contacts affecting our operations at several work sites. As of last night we have more than 20
colleagues out on COVID quarantines. Over the past week, the daily caseload in Oregon has had several
unfortunate daily highs and infection rates in Yamhill County are at levels comparable to the early stage
of the pandemic.
These factors make it necessary to close our facilities to public access. I take this step in order to protect
the health of employees, patrons and visitors and preserve our ability to continue to serve residents and
visitors.
Beginning Thursday, August 19th we will close our facilities to the public for what I hope will be only a
couple weeks time. How long we remain closed will be based on staff cases and our ability to effectively
and safely provide direct public service and the trends of the Delta Variant or other COVID caseloads. In
the meantime, I expect that we will continue to do our work and find other ways (rather than in-person)
to serve folks curbside, online, Zoom, and phone.
Some reminders and requirements during this period:
* Face coverings continue to be required within our facilities and worn in City vehicles.
* To the extent possible, we will limit the number of people traveling together in City vehicles.
One employee per vehicle is preferred.
* Work with your supervisor to arrange telework or work out alternative schedules that reduce
ongoing in-person contact with one another.
* Where possible, meetings should be done on videoconference or phone rather than in-person
to avoid potential contacts.
Please stay home if you are ill. Alert your supervisor and/or Human Resources if you have COVID
symptoms. Each of us is responsible to observe COVID-19 quarantine rules. Speak with your supervisor
for additional information on how this closure will impact your work.
Thank you so much for your ongoing service to Newberg throughout what has been an extremely
challenging time. Stay healthy!
Thanks,
Dan
