Subject: Pilot Shutdown for EW-7, EW-9, EW-19 and EW-20
Importance: Normal
DEQ has reviewed the work plan for the pilot shutdown of the extraction wells EW-7, EW-9, EW-19 and EW-20. The work plan proposes to stop extraction from these four wells and to monitor water levels monthly and water quality quarterly for a two year period. If levels of TCE remain below the 5 ug/l cleanup criteria for a two year period, then DEQ will discuss decommissioning the wells. Contingencies are presented for continued extraction if TCE increases above the 5 ug/l concentrations two quarters in a row, or if the City of Gresham development conflicts with one of these wells.
The pilot shutdown work plan is approved for implementation. It is my understanding that this approval will also result in development of a new well EW-23 work plan to be submitted to DEQ so that the new well can be installed soon after the pilot shutdown begins.
I will put a copy of this email in the site file noting the approval of the pilot shutdown work plan.
