Council Roundup August 19th, 2024 Newberg City Council met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday August 19th, 2024, and the following transpired: Resolution 2024-3946 was passed unanimously. A resolution authorizing the City Manager to sign the contract to spend $428,200 and authorizing the City Manager to accept the Grant awarded to the City from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality that reimburses the City a maximum of $257,200. A 6 to 1 vote, moving that the City request that the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development modify the City’s sequential UGB work program. A motion to explore a one-time UGB amendment was passed unanimously. A motion to direct staff to talk to YCHC to see if they want additional funds was passed with an abstention from the Mayor. 4 to 2 vote approving resolution 2024-3948, allowing a 1.9% rate increase for waste management in lieu of a higher rate increase and 7-year contract. Contract review and bidding will begin once contract term is up in 2028. A NURA meeting was held directly after the Council meeting to amend the NURA bylaws. The motion passed and the meeting was called to a close.
