PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION DECLARING JUNE 2022, AS LQBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH IN THE CITY OF NEWBERG

WHEREAS, the City of Newberg supports the rights of every community member to experience equality and freedom from discrimination; and

WHEREAS, the struggle for dignity and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ+), and any affirmative way in which people choose to self-identify is reflected in the tireless dedication of advocates and allies who strive to cultivate a more inclusive society; and

WHEREAS, many of the residents, students, city employees, volunteers, and business owners within the City of Newberg who contribute to the enrichment of our city are part of the LGBTQ+ community; and

WHEREAS, these community members and others around the globe continue to face discrimination on the basis of ignorance simply for being who they are and for loving who they love; and

WHEREAS, it is important for cities like Newberg to stand up and show support for their residents and the advancement of civil liberties; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Rogers, Mayor of the City of Newberg, Oregon, do hereby proclaim June 2022 as

LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH

in Newberg; and encourage all community members to respect the rights of all people, and to celebrate the diversity and resulting cultural richness of our City.
