
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is recognized each October.
WHEREAS, Breast Cancer is experienced by both men and women. It is the second most common cancer after skin cancer.
WHEREAS, Cancer awareness and prevention disproportionately impacts those with less access to medical care, less transportation, those with food insecurity, and those unaware of the importance of regular cancer screening.
WHEREAS, the Pandemic has resulted in a decline of cancer screening by 80% nationwide and those who are seeking treatment are experiencing even greater financial and personal isolation.
WHEREAS, Area partners include Yamhill County Public Health, Virginia Garcia, Providence Health and the ‘WITH COURAGE’ team, who is starting the “Paint Newberg PINK’ Campaign this year with local businesses. They are all working hard to bring awareness about Breast Cancer screening to the attention of our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS PROCLAIMED, by the Mayor and City Council, and on behalf of the people of the City of Newberg, Oregon, that we proclaim October 2021 “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”. We encourage all persons to schedule regular Breast Cancer screening to protect their health and keep our community strong. We Thank our local partners and businesses for increasing public awareness about Breast Cancer and their efforts support those families experiencing cancer treatment.
