The Newberg City Council met on May 18, 2020. The Council took the following actions: ● Approved Resolutions: 2020-3657 – withdrawal of Wolves & People marketing grant. ● Approved Proclamations: Recognizing June 2020 in honor of LBGTQ Pride Month. Recognized May 22 as Harvey Milk Day ● Appointed Robert Sherry to Traffic Safety Commission, and Lozelle Mathai to Citizens Rate Review Commission. In other business, Directed staff to return with a resolution providing assistance to the Oregon Worker Relief Fund. Denied Resolution 2020-3666, Acquisition of Right of Way for Elliott Road. Directed staff to bring back revised resolution June 15th. Heard presentations on Safe & Reliable Water Systems, Visit Newberg quarterly report and responses to COVID-19 situation, and Council Goals. Heard from citizens on government overreach with pandemic lockdowns, Elliott Road acquisitions. Heard activity report from City Manager, and committee reports from Councilors. Mayor Rogers thanked longtime planning commissioner Allyn Edwards for his service as Mr. Edwards is stepping down from his role with his family’s relocation to Texas.
