The Newberg City Council met on February 3, 2020. The Council took the following actions: ● Swearing in of Julia Martinez Plancarte to District 2 position on City Council for a term until December 31, 2022. ● Proclaimed February 3rd, 2020 as Public Servant Family Appreciation Day. ● Directed staff to bring back Ordinance 2020-2856, purchasing authority of City Manager with amendments for a second reading on February 18. ● Directed staff to come back with options and impacts for discontinuing the National League of Cities pipeline warranty program. ● Appointed Jenna Morris to the Planning Commission, and student Kaspar Czuk and Roger Kuhlman to the Traffic Safety Commission. In other business, Heard presentation on Chamber quarterly report. Heard activity report from City Manager. Held an executive session on Real Property. Heard from citizens on their support for Councilor Martinez Plancarte; thanks to departing Councilor Curtis Gemeroy; support for the Council’s recent goals including Diversity, and Sustainability. Discussed balancing divergent viewpoints as a Council and the meaning of democracy.
