The Newberg City Council met on November 18, 2019. The Council took the following actions: ● Heard presentations on body cameras for police department, and Elliott Road design work. ● Approved application to state to create PERS side account. ● Approved several resolutions: 2019-3618, ECONorthwest contract for Economic Opportunities Analysis. 2019-3630, Declaration of vacancy in Council District 2. 2019-3619, approval of updated 2019 Economic Development Strategy. 2019-3627, Acting City Manager delegation – change in process. ● Set an executive session for Dec. 9 to discuss public official performance – city attorney. ● Tabled Resolution 2019-3599 until a work session could be held with Yamhill County Corrections. In other business, Gene Piros was sworn into office for District 5. Heard from citizens concerned about Elliott Road future improvements, public records requests, legal advice on recent court cases and investigations, re-naming Sheridan Street, developing a relationship with the Confederated Tribes of Grande Ronde, and drug problems in town. Heard activity report from City Manager Pro Tem, and an update on the recruitment for the City Manager. 24 people have applied so far, and the recruitment runs until Nov. 24. Heard quarterly report from Chehalem Chamber of Commerce. Discussed Council committee and community activities.
