Sondra,

This looks good to me. It still shows the overhead lines feeding the 2 wood pole lights on the property but I just got off the phone with the service coordinator and a crew is scheduled to take them down tomorrow afternoon on work order M2782882. I think you are good to finalize, then I will schedule the preconstruction meeting and we should be off and running.

Thanks,

I will set the design to come off of the new pole with a 4” conduit to the west to a 75 kva 120/208 pad mount transformer. We will need to know where the new meterbase will go for the shops in the back? Possibly on the customer pole on the east side or the small building on the east?

Would you want to meet on site to confirm everything before I finalize the sketch?

Call Service Coordination 503-323-6700 for installing the temp, let them know that you want it the same day as the disconnect. You will need to get it set, inspected by the county & PGE before then or it can’t be done at the same time.

I show the request for the 3 phase was for 400 amp CT 120/208v. Should this be different?

Sondra,

Just following up on my voicemail from earlier. Will the 3 phase power for this project be 240 volt with a high leg? Also I am planning on setting a 200 amp temp service off the pole for construction power and I am hoping the crew that is scheduled for Tuesday the 16th to disconnect the power to the existing building can power the temp up that same day.

Sorry for my persistence, I just found out yesterday that I need to set the temp pole to keep power going to some existing buildings.

Thanks,

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I went over this with my supervisor & the General Foreman and this is what we are proposing:

Remove the 3 phase meterbase off of the pole and have you install a new single phase meterbase (not sure what size you will need) over to the customer owned pole that is located by your shed on the left.

We remove 1 transformer off of the pole to allow for the 4 cutouts, then we can swing an overhead 1 phase secondary over to this new meterbase from the transformer that is left on the pole.

Add a 2” pole conduit to the pole for the new 3 phase service, run underground to the west to a new transformer pad site (no vault will be needed, just a 6x6 concrete trans pad).

Could this work for you?

Thanks Sondra. We are thinking… will get back to you shortly. One alternative: if we eliminate the 3 phase power to the back building could we eliminate a cutout on the existing pule, thereby making room for the 3 new cutouts needed? The only thing back there that needs 3 phase is a compressor but I can move it. We can live with 110 power back there. Thanks for answering my questions!

On the existing pole with the 2 transformers, there are 2 cutouts in place. We are only allowed 4 maximum cutouts per pole & I would need to add 3 cutouts if I took the 3 phase service underground from that pole which would exceed the maximum.

Ryan, a few notes from PGE. I’m not entirely sure what the consequences of this is, but I’m not super keen on adding a pole and more overhead wires. I’m also not sure why we can’t run underground to the new pad. Any suggestions?

Ok, here is the situation. As the transformer pole stands now, I cannot run underground off of it to a pad mount transformer for the new building. Some options for you to consider asap:

  1. 1. Adding a new pole to the west & installing an overhead transformer on this pole instead of a pad mount transformer for the new building. In doing this, I would have to change out transformer pole#769. I would abandon the existing pole to you so that the 3 phase 120/240v open delta meterbase stays on the pole. I would have to set a new pole 10’ away (to the North)
  2. 2. Set a new pole min 10’ to the north, then bring the primary underground off of that pole to a pad mount transformer for the new building. I think this option is the easiest so that nothing has to be changed with the existing services.

As soon as you make a decision, I will fast track the design. I have electricians wanting to know what is needed for the project for their bids. Sorry for the issues so late in the game.

I need to go over things with my supervisor, but the transformer pole has the 2 cutouts for the 2 phases that go back to the shop. We are only allowed 4 cutouts on a pole & I would need 3 more for the new building. Just running some options through my head to see if something could work better.

Hi there,

Question for you. The existing 3 phase service that serves the back shop. The meter for that is on the transformer pole at the entrance. Do you guys use 3 phase at that building or just the single phase, 120/240v portion of the service?

Sondra,

I noticed the same. There is only V-phase to the 240/120V transformer bank. But, there is room to add a center phase and there is 3-phase available on the street. It is only 2-spans (~480-ft) of wire that are needed.

I am more concerned about crowding on the transformer pole. Can you add a riser to the already busy deadend transformer pole or do you need to add a pole to accommodate the riser? (This is rhetorical at this moment and will await your field investigation.)

I am proposing the meter/CT location to be on the western side of the building in order to be near the planned generator and associated ATS.

Thank you Michael. One thing I see on our maps for the power that is going to the open delta 120/240v is that we only have 2 phases going back there. We would need to bring in a 3rd phase, so I will see when I am out at the site tomorrow which pole we can come off to optimize your meterbase location.

Thank you,

Sondra,

Thank you for the call. I have attached two electrical drawings you may find useful. Also a site plan.

I have also attached an annotated Google Earth aerial photo.

Please use Andy as your primary point of contact. Andy can contact Fred Shaub or me if needed for electric service support.
