Subject: NWS Briefing - December 19
Hello City EMs,
The NWS just competed a call and provided slides regarding the upcoming heavy rain, which are attached. A summary from the call follows:
- * The heaviest rain will fall within roughly 24 hours starting tonight and going into Saturday evening. Flooding expectations are expected Friday through Sunday.
- * Slide 3 is imagery of what is to come over the next few days. This image shows the atmospheric river that is set up to impact Oregon and Washington.
- * Slide 7 shows the expected rainfall throughout the state. In the Portland area we are expecting up to 2 to 3 inches. The same is expected in the Government Camp area. The heaviest rain is expected on the coast and in Washington.
- * Slide 11 indicates where the wind is expected to be the strongest. There are gusts expected in the Portland area up to 37 mph. The Government Camp area is expected to have around gusts of 14 mph. The strongest winds are expected along the coast. NOTE: I have talked to PGE regarding concerns that we may have. We will continue to be in contact over the weekend.
- * River, small stream, and urban flooding is still expected. At this time we have two rivers/creeks of moderate concern in Clackamas County, Johnson Creek and the Clackamas River. NOTE: CCDM works closely with Multnomah County on an flooding that may occur along Johnson Creek since both sides of the county line can be impacted.
