Subject: Keeping parks and restroom facilities open

Dear colleagues:

Please consider keeping your parks and restroom facilities open during the COVID-19 pandemic. We all share the goal of slowing the spread of this virus to lessen the impacts on our communities and, in particular, our health care systems.

These are uncertain times that feel scary. Actions that seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago are now viewed as essential to our shared efforts to address this pandemic.

However, just as practicing social distancing is important to do all of the above, it is also important to balance the need for people to enjoy the outside and community resources such as parks. We know that social isolation at home is of particular concern for rural communities, refugees and communities of color.

Enjoying time in our parks and outdoor spaces is even more important in our current environment. Restrooms at these facilities can be used safely by parks users and by members of our homeless community as a critical place to meet their hygiene needs.

Consider signage asking people to follow the key steps to avoid spread of COVID 19. Those include:

I offer this suggestion in the spirit of promoting the health of our community and easing the stress of the situation we find ourselves in.

Thank you for your consideration.
