Subject: Reminders during Calls for Service and Contacts
Importance: Normal
All,
As an outward facing department who contacts the public daily, it’s important to remind staff that we need to limit ourselves to potential exposures with those who may be carrying a virus.
Try to keep our distance from those we are contacting, and the CDC recommends a distance of as much as 6 feet when possible.
If possible, you might want to have your complainants contact you outside of a residence to reduce the chance of potential exposure to viruses. For most citizens, they should be satisfied if you explain that we are not entering houses unless necessary out of an abundance of caution. In short, be mindful that distancing during our contacts is important, and that your safety is our priority.
Of note: The virus causing COVID-19 is called SARS-CoV-2. It is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person via respiratory droplets among close contacts. Respiratory droplets are produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes and can land in the mouths or noses, or possibly be inhaled into the lungs, of people who are nearby. Close contact may include:
Please take the time to ask questions and we will work to get them answered.
Lieutenant Long and I are working on a reduced staffing contingency plan should the virus strike an employee within our department. It is imperative that all employees contact their supervisors by calling them in the event they become ill with what is believed to be COVID-19 virus. Supervisors, let’s all be mindful of keeping the Command Staff aware of the health of employees and advise ill employees to stay home.
Thanks,
Chief
