Subject: RE: Request to Purchase Water and Dispose of in Sanitary Sewer for Heintz St Gas Main Replacement

Importance: Normal

Hi Daniel,

We have a hydrant meter at the shop you can fill a water truck from. You would just need to stop by City Hall to pay for the water first. It should be relatively inexpensive and the crew can help fill the water truck. Also, I know Westech is applying for a hydrant meter as well. I’m assuming it will be on site in the next week. I can let you know what the cost would be for the water if you want to go that route and pay them back.

As for the hydrotest water, we don’t allow for water to be disposed of in the City sewer collection system, see Code below. However, if the water is clean and not contaminated, it may be drained/pumped to a detention pond/swale to remove sediment a prior to entering the City Storm.

13.08.480 Unlawful discharge of storm and other waters.

No person shall discharge or cause to be discharged any stormwater, surface water, groundwater, roof runoff, subsurface drainage, uncontaminated cooling water, or unpolluted industrial process waters to any sanitary sewer. (Ord. 2007-07 §1; Ord. 1976-2 Art. 5 §l)

Jennifer,

It was great to meet you today.

Before we can put our new high pressure gas main into service, we will need perform an 8 hour pressure test with water.

The volume of water we need is approximately 750 gallons.

Upon completion of the hydrotest, we’d like to dump the test water back into the City sewer collection system. The gas pipe has never been used, so the test water is pretty clean and doesn’t contain any oils or natural gas products.

Does the City need NW Natural to purchase a hydrant permit to buy the water?

Thanks,
