Hi Jenn,

I looked at the situation in the field yesterday and I will try to come up with a profile for the curb over the culvert and we can go from there. I wish some of the minor items can be discussed over the phone as opposed to the back and forth via e-mails.

Hi Hassan,

Here’s an avenue we can take with the ADA ramp on the NW corner of Grange and Robbins. Section R202.3.1 of the 2011 PROWAG recognized on ODOTs webpage states the following:

R202.3.1 Existing Physical Constraints. Where existing physical constraints make it impracticable for altered elements, spaces, or facilities to fully comply with the requirements for new construction, compliance is required to the extent practicable within the scope of the project. Existing physical constraints include, but are not limited to, underlying terrain, right-of-way availability, underground structures, adjacent developed facilities, drainage, or the presence of a notable natural or historic feature.

I’m assuming the driveway servicing the adjacent developed facility outside the project scope will quality. We should run this past Justin today for concurrence today. The existing ramp can be viewed on street view of Google maps. https://goo.gl/maps/XVuL8

Thanks,

Hi Jenn,

I will get out there in the next day or so and discuss those options to get a better feel for the situation.

Thanks for bringing this up to my attention.

Hi Hassan,

Eagle-Elsner would like direction on these 3 items:

1) The concrete sub has offered to include a #4 bar in the curb and wire mesh in the sidewalk to improve the integrity of the ramp on the eastside of the Grange/Robbins intersection. He however has requested to not be held responsible if the flatwork fails due to the lack of cover over the corrugated steel culvert. I am will to agree with the terms as long as the ADA requirements are met and all other failure/craftsmanship is warranted not related to the lack of coverage over the culvert.

2) If Eagle-Elsner proceeds as planned with the 2” added elevation to the Grange/Robbins Ramp reconstruction how will the storm be addressed? Can an additional Inlet be added approx. 5 feet. north of the hotel/restaurant driveway approach be added and connected to the existing storm to ensure puddling does not occur in the shoulder due to the reverse grade in the gutter.

3) When an ADA ramp is reconstructed to match into an existing adjacent driveway approach, as such is the case is at the NW ramp of Grange/Robbins, the ramp slope is allowed to increase from 8.33% to 10%. The concrete foreman thought that this was allowed in ODOT standards. I am unaware of this condition for ADA reconstruction. May be something to confirm with Justin?
