Thanks Jennifer,

I got a chance to visit with Dan Huff on Grange, and he talked about the different projects. But just to clarify for the story -- Currently under construction:

1. Heintz street improvement includes a new water line (10-inch?) between just west of Molalla Ave to Center Ave. and Kennel and the street repaved with new pavement and sidewalk improvements from Molalla Ave. to Grange Ave.– is that correct?

2. Grange Street improvements include new pavement (between Main and Heintz?), replaced sidewalks and some replaced storm drains with sidewalk and storm drain improvements.

3. Stowers – new pavement, sidewalk improvements, storm drain improvements (entire length of street?) and new water lines, approved last night at about $161,000 beginning just north of 5th St. to 7th St. Are new sidewalks part of the Stowers improvement?

n You mentioned in the meeting that the poor condition of the waterline on Stowers was not caught until construction underway – and you said, “My concern is if we have to go in and make repairs later, people will ask, why are you opening up the street after the new pavement went in” – do you want to add anything to this? The current waterline on Stowers Ave. is Transite or otherwise know at asbestos concrete (AC), which is harmless when functioning as a buried watermain. However this AC watermain is nearing the end of it’s life cycle and has become brittle. This leads to increased leak repairs and pavement patchwork with a risk of AC exposure to the crew. It’s always in the best interest of the public to replace AC watermain when feasible.

n This makes sense to fix the stowers waterline now. My question is that Dan Huff said something in the meeting about the upsizing from 8 to 10-inch pipe will be covered by SDC funds – where does the rest of the funding come from for the waterline? (People always ask). The Water Capital Improvement Program.

Thanks again,

Peggy

Hello Jennifer,

Your report last night to the council last night was very thorough, but I do have a couple of quick questions about the Heintz Street paving project and the water line to be replaced.

I know you are busy, but if you have a few minutes this afternoon, I’d like to give you a call.

Thanks,

Peggy
