Hi Terry,
I appreciate your follow up with the City regarding the Tree Lighting Event. I specifically did not read the comments, however a few people in the office did read them and felt that there was several complaint comments against the City. As Facebook goes, I don’t expect anyone to contact the Chamber or the City personally with their complaints. I also understand there was some confusion on the time of the event. The paper had printed the event to begin at 6 p.m., which could mean that most folks may have missed the lighting.
On the City’s end, we would have preferred a week’s advanced notice regarding access to additional circuits and traffic control support. I had intended to leave the office early on Wednesday and most likely would have missed the request for additional power connections from within City Hall had I left. On Saturday, when our on Duty person arrived there were no barricades provided as mentioned in our meeting with Grant. The city is happy to provide the barricades for public safety needs, however this plan should be documented in a traffic control closure plan and pre-arranged for use of the City barricades.
The City will continue to support the Chamber events. Until then, here are my recommendations.
· Schedule pre-coordination meeting with the City and all key event players in order to verify if we have the necessary support and resources available.
· For traffic closures, submit a plan with the event application to ensure the proper traffic control devices (provided) and police support is available for public safety.

Hi Jennifer,
My name is Terry Shankle and I’m the president of the Molalla Area Chamber of Commerce. I wanted to thank you for your help with the tree lighting event. We really appreciate all that the public works department does for us for this event and the parade. Connie mentioned that you had seen on Facebook that the tree lighting was bad. I’m not very good on Facebook but I’ve been looking and haven’t seen anything yet. Could you please let me know which Facebook you saw this posted. We are trying very hard to keep everything positive about Molalla.
I will be contacting you later in the spring to go over things regarding the parade, since this is your first year if you would like to get together that would be great or we can do email. The public works department has always done such a great job for us but we never get to thank them face to face. It’s like they are magic elves that just wave a wand a make things happen. We both know it takes hard work and good planning to pull it all together. I look forward to meeting you.
