As far as the outreach to the newspaper, I’m afraid to work with them in any capacity after the horror stories I’ve heard. But this adopt-a-tree idea is kind of interesting, and could galvanize the community.

Nick, the donor would like to add another 10 trees if you have places for them - Greenspire Linden. We have some nice specimens and it used to be our most popular tree. It was overplanted and there have been a couple of publicized incidents involving bee kills when the trees were sprayed during the flowering season. Here is a link to the tree description http://supertrees.com/trees/linden-greenspire

I was thinking last night about the intent of the donation and possibilities for getting community involvement. What about approaching the newspaper in regards to the tree donation from an anonymous donor who no longer lives in the area but wanted to do something to remember their time in the Molalla and Canby areas? The trees are their way of honoring and respecting the people and experiences she shared while she and her deceased husband lived here. It isn’t necessarily only for those who have died but also for births, weddings, and remembering others with whom they shared fond memories who have also moved away from the area.

The only one from Molalla that she mentioned by name was Paul Puffer who operated a dental practice and was quite active in the community. Perhaps others could join in recognizing people who have made a positive impact on the community – deceased or living, residing in the area or not, and “adopt” one of these trees. She did not want plaques or anything like that and more than one person could adopt the same tree without even knowing that others have done the same.

I think perhaps there could be an article in the paper explaining the intent of the donor, a listing of the locations of the trees, and let the people respond with people they would like to include. What are your thoughts?

Ben,

Attached is a pdf with the maps and locations of the donated trees. The majority of them are used to better define pedestrian areas, and create a more enjoyable user experience. I think they will be a great addition to our parks.

Order of maps as they appear in the PDF:

- Adult Center

- Clark Park

- Fox Park/Library

- Ivor Davies Park

- Pocket Park near Bi-Mart on HWY 211

I want to thank this donor somehow; if a letter or something along those lines is appropriate, perhaps you could pass that along. I could quickly draft one up, let me know.

Thank you,

Nicolas Lennartz
