Hello,

Just a follow up email to let you know the crew identified and removed roots found in the sewer main line today. They will also be back out tomorrow to finish up cleaning the line.

Again I recommend having your line inspected by a contractor for repairs. It is likely there are roots in both the City sewer main line and your home’s private lateral.

Hi Allyssa,

I will have the mainline checked today and let you know if anything is found.

In regards to the lateral line from your home to the sewer main line in the street (including the connection), this is the responsibility of the homeowner. If I understand your email correctly, the damage from the roots are in the lateral line and before the City Main. This being said, the City would not make the repairs to your private lateral.

I recommend contacting a few contractors for quotes who are capable of making this type of repair. Some Contractors are now capable of installing pipe liners. This may be a lower cost repair versus excavation and pipe repair for the root issue.

If the repair section is within the City right-of-way, a permit is required to do the work. There is no fee for the permit at this time. Additionally, the Contractor may need to obtain a City Business License if they don’t already have one.

I hope my response has been clear. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to call my office number listed below.

Best Regards,

Subject: Sewer Line

Hello,

My name is Allyssa Amaya and I currently live at 205 East 6th Street here in Molalla. Over the past few months I have had trouble with our sewer line backing up and have had to call a plumber multiple times. This past Wednesday I had the same issue and had a plumber come out. They used a camera and located roots in the line about 93 feet out from our house. They suggested I contact the city because it far enough out that it may actually be on city property. I was wondering what we the next step is or how we can get the city to check into this issue? You can email me back or contact me at 503-423-7428.

Thank you,

Allyssa
