Jennifer,

The problem you’re having seems to be fairly common with steel tanks, but not usually this soon. They were installed in or about 2007, correct? Yes that is correct.

Traditionally, the sand is vacuumed out and the inside inspected. If the structure is found to be sturdy enough, seals are replaced, surface sanded down, patched, and re-coated. I will need to look into purchasing a hose to vacuum the filter tank out with our vactor truck.

Newer materials, such as Composite Fiberglass Tanks may be cost-effective, especially if more than one is leaking. Unfortunately our budget does not allow the replacement at this time. We might want to have them all inspected for failures however.

More soon, Thanks, BobS

Jennifer,

Questions:

1. What is your current & projected wastewater flow?

2. The 2007 design shows a Peak Day Flow Design capacity of 8.5 MGD for 2015, with planned capacity of 10.3 MGD by 2025. Were all components for 2025 constructed?

3. Are you currently meeting your effluent quality limits?

4. Are there leaks from only 1 of the Sand Filters or more?

Thanks, BobS

Hi Bob,

Here are a few photos of the area around the gravity filter, just after the leak was discovered.

Hi,

Per our phone conversation, attached is the full plan set of the WWTP Improvements made in 2007. These plans include the construction of the sand filters. Filter #1 is in need of the repairs.
