Good morning Jenn,

I would like to discuss a certain aspect of this with you at some point today and would like to stop by for a few after I make my morning parks rounds.

Thanks!

Darren

Subject: Parks

Hi –

I’m sure everyone is aware of the recent transient issues in the parks and the unprovoked behavior of a specific Long Park Camper.

It was also brought to my attention this evening that we have a bigger issue than expected with new transients in Molalla due to several factors. I want everyone to know we are in contact and working with the Molalla PD to resolve this issue. However, I do need to clarify a few policy changes when dealing with the transients and needles in our parks.

Please do not attempt to approach or talk the transients. If you witness them partaking in illegal activities within our parks, such as camping, drinking, drug use or et al., please contact the non-emergency line and make a report. Just in case, the non-emergency line to contact and save in your city cell phone is (503) 655-8211.

When encountering drug paraphernalia, please take safety precautions and do not pick it up with your bare hands. Use gloves or pinchers to pick up and dispose of it in the safety containers. Every vehicle should be equipped with a Sharps container or similar safety containers. If your container is full or need a new container, please let Garrett know. This is hazardous waste and needs to be disposed of properly. Here’s is a link from the FDA for more information on Safe Disposal of Used Needles and other Sharps. http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/Pressannouncements/ucm278851.htm

As follow up, please make a detailed written email report to myself and Garrett, I will forward the information along.

We are working on how to handle other personal belongings left behind or hidden in the parks as storage. I will be revisiting this issue with the police chief soon. As for now please report it to the Molalla PD, Garrett and myself until further notice.

Your safety is very important me and the City. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to stop by my office.

Regards,

Jenn
