There are tighter restrictions with storm water. I do not believe that would be permitted without treatment.

The well supplies water to the Batch Plant. It was OK’ed by the city long ago. We use it for process water only.

Covering the wash pad would be too expensive for this use. We’ll look to discharge into the stormwater then. Thanks

Hi Mitch,

I will need to get back to you on the whether an oil/water separator is sufficient. However, I have a bigger concern with an open pad draining to the sanitary system. An open drain allows rain and storm water to flow directly to the treatment plant which is considered an Infiltration/Inflow (I/I) violation. The wash, if permitted, would definitely need to be covered and designed to flow storm water away from the pad.

Second, I am also concerned that your well has not been decommissioned. Unless you property is in the county, I believe you are required to be connected only to City water services.

The offices are closed today for Veteran’s Day, so I will discuss your questions with Nicholas tomorrow.

We’re going to install a wash area next to our new shop. We propose to use an oil/water separation system and discharge the remaining effluent to the city’s sanitary sewer system. We also propose to use our well water system to supply the needed water for this, so the only demand on city resources would be the discharge from this wash pad via the oil/water separator. We anticipate the use to be 0 to 7 washes/month; so not a heavy demand.

Would this be an allowable use? If not, what would we need to do to make it so?
