Jenn – thanks for chatting this morning. We agree that if we remove the horizontal bends, it will require a longer shut down to install the line to the “T”. However, the purpose of the horizontal bends in the plans was so they could install the new pipe from the “T” and cross under the 30” SD while keeping the existing line in service, and then jog over to tie into the existing line in the side streets while minimizing shut down. I believe they can still do this at 2nd, 3rd and Ross, per plan, without long shut downs. However, the Contractor’s proposal to move the new valve to the connection point with the line on the side street and remove the horizontal bends should also work provided that they install temporary restraint on the valve. We will mark up the plans to illustrate this concept.

At 2nd, 3rd, and Ross we would view this as a no cost change (other than extending the pipe along 3rd to cross under the 30”, which will be covered by existing pay items).

At Robbins, since the existing valve on the Robbins line is on the east side of the storm crossing, we concur that there is a change since they will have to cap and restrain the existing line near the “T” with the existing Molalla Ave. line. As discussed at the meeting, Houck will submit a cost for this change.

Yes, they would have to turn the water off all day on Robbins to install straight to the “T” and to allow time for chlorination and testing. This may be an issue at other locations as well.

Unfortunately there are businesses on the side streets that would be affected.

Hi Jenn – have you heard back from Houck on this? Once we hear back we can revise the design mods that were included in RFI5.

Subject: FW: Molalla - 30" SD and Waterline Connection Options

Hi Sarah,

As an alternative to the method discussed in today’s meeting for adjusting the water lines at the 30” storm locations in the intersections, Daphne has provided below some suggestions that I believe may save additional time in the schedule. I agree with her suggestions below.

Please let us know your thoughts.

Thank you,

Subject: Molalla - 30" SD and Waterline Connection Options

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for discussing the waterline connections at the 30” SD crossings. A suggestion for the Contractor to resolve the conflicts in these locations is to make the waterline connections and construct the new waterlines all the way to the locations of the proposed tee and valve.

For example, on 2nd Street, the Contractor could connect to the existing 6” waterline, go under the 30” SD, and continue the new waterline to the proposed 10”x6” tee and 6” gate valve. For the temporary condition, they would close the 6” gate valve and install a thrust block behind the tee. They would come back later and install the proposed 10” waterline in the north south direction and connect to the tee.

It is possible to remove the horizontal jog(s) if the Contractor removes the section of existing waterline along the existing water line alignment.

The suggestion of constructing the segments of waterline to their proposed valve and tee locations may be preferable for resolving the conflicts with the 30” SD.

I am available to review each intersection in more detail with the Contractors if that would be helpful. Tomorrow, I am not planning to be in the office but I will check email and respond as I am available.

Thanks,
