Hi Spencer,

Thank you for connecting. At this time we do not have any entry level position available, but I will look into whether or not Jason, our Lead Operator, is interested in accepting an internship at this time or may be later this year. Unfortunately our internships or not paid and seasonal positions would not be available again until next year, unless a current seasonal employees leaves early.

Thank you for your interest and Jason or I will be in contact to let you know if there is availability for an internship or seasonal position.

My Best,

Jennifer Cline, P.E.

Subject: Introduction

Hello Jennifer Cline,

My name is Spencer Berndt and I just finished my Water/Wastewater Technician Certificate through Skagit Valley College in Washington State. I have submitted my application to take my OIT test and am excited to start my career as a wastewater treatment plant operator.

I did my internship at the Arlington wastewater treatment plant. They have an amazing facility including a composting unit for handling solids. I have visited most the facilities in my area including Lopez Island where I was interviewed for a job.

I am writing you to introduce myself but also to ask for help. I am having a tough time finding opportunities to be employed at a treatment plant even for seasonal work. If you have any suggestions or advice I am all ears and would be greatly appreciated.

Wastewater treatment plants are a vital part of a healthy community. An employee at a treatment plant is not just working to provide for their family and themselves, but is maintaining a safe environment for people to live and work.

The challenges of being a treatment plant operator vary from day to day and that is exciting to me. One day one can be geared up cleaning screens and the next in the lab preparing all monitoring data.

My family and I live in Everett WA and when we agreed that I would leave my job to find a career that I really wanted to be a part of, we would move. I was born and raised in Albany OR and the move back to my home state would be nice. We have been preparing our house to sell or rent so the location of the job is restricted only by housing availability.

Thank you for your time and hopefully we can communicate in the near future.

Spencer Berndt
