Nicely worded… we should talk about planning for next year a few months ahead. I think we can improve traffic control.
I see an opportunity for improved traffic control signing and the parade signing (they need a map for where to stage and how to get there).

Speaking from experience, you can't hold an event of any significance in any town without a great deal of planning and even then, there will always be issues that arise that need to be dealt with as best you can. As the Officer in Charge of the routes for many Rose Festival events, I can tell you that along with the hundreds of thousands of spectators that flood to those events every year, there are always going to be a fair amount of people who are disgusted by the disruption and want it all to go away.
As far as I know, based on feedback I received during the parade, I think things went fairly well overall. Even the people I encountered while I was directing traffic out of town were well behaved and relatively patient. It is clear that the event is popular, not only for our local residents, but to a large group of people that travel in from out of town as well.
There is no question that the event is a boat-load of work for many people, as these events don't just happen by themselves. However, although my job would be a lot easier if the event did not occur, I do see the benefits of memories being created for our young citizens, as well as the memories being re-lived by our established crowd. And. . . we join together to celebrate our Country's rich heritage and the independence we've come to enjoy but must never take for granted. This one day. . . we come together as a community to honor and celebrate this Great and Blessed Nation.

Sadie,
Thanks including me in the e-mail. I empathize with the complexity the race adds to the event, I am very thankful we have such an amazing police force to be able to pull this off. From everything I have seen the overwhelming response has been positive and very supportive of the addition of the race, but I know there are always numerous exceptions.
Thanks,
Jon

Question/Comment: Regarding the annual parade. Another miserable
experience!! Since the barricading of the roads for the run, attending the
parade is pure misery and much harder. Prior to the run, attending and
watching the parade was a great time. That ship has sailed. My family has
been to the parade for over 40 years. My husband and I are both Molalla high
school graduates. We will NOT keep this old tradition!! Mt. Angel and Canby
are far easier to attend. Good bye to the Molalla parade......
