Subject: Basketball court

The Ford Family Foundation Cohort is upon us again and there are a couple of projects they are considering that I wanted you all to be aware they are considering.

Basketball Court – They are considering a project that would add a chain link fence along the south/street side of the court, lighting, more benches and clean-up. I suggest looking at the condition of the existing backboards and hoops as well. Just curious, why does it need to be fenced? It’s not a tennis court, maybe a fence on the grass edges keeping the ball from rolling into the street.

What about building a new skate park? That is a bigger deficiency.

Dog Park – The only property we have that they could consider using is an area at Ivor Davies. This one is not my favorite. There is a location at Ivor Davies park in the SE corner that may work. However, there is no parking along Mathias, so folks would have to walk in from 5th St.

Also if they can purchase a small piece of the Avison property across from HS Stadium, that may work as well. Dog parks work best when they are in a rural setting. My only concern is mowing over dog feces. If this goes we should implement a fine for not picking up doggie do-do if we don’t have one already.

I threw Jennifer under the bus and told them that when/if they pick one of these that they would need a plan and then they could come in and chat some more.
