Dan,

I’ve been exposed to three different systems; Hansen, MaintStar and Lucity.

Hansen was very cumbersome and not very self-intuitive. It also had very little to no GIS integration. I wouldn’t recommend Hansen as a product to utilize. MaintStar was the system that we had just adopted at my old jurisdiction. I was on the selection committee which reviewed 12 different systems and MaintStar was selected as the winner. Good GIS integration and simply work logic from what I saw. I left there and came to OC before they went to full operation with MaintStar but I was able to see during the initial build out was good. We have Lucity here at OC and my reviews are mixed with it. It was created by members of the Hansen team that spun off and created their own business. IT has several of the flaws that I saw in Hansen and I can tell you that their support is lacking at times. For instance, we want to utilize the Fleet Module that’s incorporated into it. I’ve never managed a fleet before here and have asked them if they have staff that could come out and help to build the module up and show us how to implement it affectively. Their response was that they don’t have anyone internal or that they could recommend and they suggested that we contact other municipalities and see what they’ve done with it.

The one system that I’ve always been the most impressed with and I think West Linn is in the process of implementing it is Cartograph. It’s all GIS driven and I’ve heard great things, but it is expensive. We looked at it at my old jurisdiction and they lost based on cost. Hope this helps and feel free to contact me if you need more info.

Greetings Martin,

Molalla is currently looking into GIS based asset management programs and our Public Works director, Jennifer Cline, told me and that you’d be a good resource for what software to look into/avoid. We’re looking into Cityworks as a known, solid option but would like to explore other similar software. Any insight you could give would be much appreciated.

Best,
