Hi Brenda,

That permit is with the public works director, Jennifer Cline, who is out today.

It’s going to be a tight fit with that access because you have very minimal spacing between the corner and your neighbor’s property. We’ll find what works best, and touch base next week.

You submit all materials to me, and I’ve attached a typical access permit, we can talk about how to administer the access permit and how to orient the access.

Good Morning,

Sorry to keep bothering you. I went on the City Of Molalla website looking for building permit forms and it said “no forms available”. Who do I contact about submitting our shop drawings and also getting a permit to alter the sidewalk for driveway access?

Thank you,

Any work in a ROW, especially a new access, requires a permit. I can’t promise a yes or no but based on your location it’s certainly possible. I’d need a site plan showing where this access would be.

Well we are getting closer to getting this done, we met with Parker Pole Buildings yesterday and he brought a good question to the table. We are at the end of a “hammerhead” cul-da-sac that is also marked with red curbs. We would like to make a driveway approach to the shop the would require the approach to be cut through the red area. Will this be a problem?

My mistake, that is only for garages, which this isn’t. There are no architectural standards necessarily, but there are building codes which I don’t administer. Those are administered by Clackamas County at this time.

I would suggest the structure be aesthetically appealing but I have no legal authority to require it.

You can see the setbacks for ‘accessory structures’ here: http://www.qcode.us/codes/molalla/view.php?topic=17-17_08-17_08_020&frames=off

Be aware that a 0’ setback requires fire code compliance in the form of ‘fire walls’, so I would recommend staying with the 5’ setback throughout. Accessory structures are required to be no higher than the primary structure (home) and look similar in appearance to the home as well (similar siding, etc.).

Good Morning,

We received our estimate for building the shop at 470 Burghardt Dr. in Molalla. In order for us to submit the drawings for you we have to “sign the dotted line” with Parker Pole Buildings. My hopes is that you can tell me a rundown of what is required for us to build. I would hate to sign my life away for them to build and then submit the drawings to you and get turned down, I would be out $1,500.00. Are there specific requirements that we have to meet? Will we be required to have a particular color (since we live in a development), over hangs, gutters, etc….? We have a neighbor to one side of us, will that affect us building a shop? I know below you said we are R1 which indicates ok to build and I spoke to Clackamas County and they said setbacks are 5’ off the property line sides and rear and 10’ from the sidewalk. Sorry to throw a ton of questions at you but I’m hoping to get MOST of by questions answered before committing to anything with Parker Pole Buildings.

Assuming the shop/pole barn is for personal use, ie not for a commercial venture, then it is considered an accessory structure and is permissible in R1 zones. Google searched for elevation drawing to give you an example, it shows the architectural details: https://www.google.com/search?q=elevation+drawing&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMImO3v8eODyQIVw6KICh3vJgx3&biw=1920&bih=995 It’s not literally the elevation.

That’s ok. I’m new to this sort of thing so bear with meJ I talked to Clackamas County and they said I need to contact you to see if I can even build on my property. Do I fill out the forms and pay the $50.00 and then possibly find out I can’t build? How do I find out the elevation?

Attached is also a plat for your property to help you get started with the site plan.

Please let me know when you’re ready to submit or have further questions.

My husband and I live at 470 Burghardt Dr. in Molalla and are hoping to build a shop/pole barn. I was told by Clackamas County that I need to contact you to get approval to build within city limits. How do I go about doing this?
