Proposed Email:

Hi Peggy,

In regards to the City’s notification of the May 11, 2015 effluent Overflow to Bear Creek notification:

The conversation you had with Tiffany Yelton-Bram is correct, the City is still investigating the cause of the spill at the Molalla Wastewater Treatment Facility to the full extent. At this time, it is still undetermined the quantity of the spill or the duration.

The City immediately notified the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) about this incident and has been working with the agency to ensure an appropriate investigation and response. In addition, the local residents adjacent to Bear Creek were notified in person and we are addressing any concerns they may have.

The City is committed to protecting human health and the environment in all aspects of the wastewater treatment plant’s operation. Please contact Jennifer Cline, City Public Works Director, or Dan Huff, City Manager, at 503-829-6855 for information.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Cline, P.E.

Subject: sewage spill into bear creek

Hi Jennifer,

I read the notice on the city website about the effluent that flowed into Bear Creek from the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Also, I talked with Tiffany Yelton-Bram at DEQ about it this morning. She said you notified her and met the permit requirement for 24-hour reporting and that the spill is still under investigation.

Do you know yet how much effluent escaped into the creek, and for how long it had been flowing before it was discovered?

If you have anything else you’d like to add to what was mentioned on the website, that would be a good thing. The more the city is open about such accidents, the more likely people are to appreciate that accidents happen.

If you could give me a call or just return my email message, I’d appreciate it.

I go to press tomorrow (Friday) this week – we have an early deadline because of the 3-day weekend.

Thanks

Peggy
