Smarter Work Zones Webinar

Please join FHWA and the Oregon T2 Center for a presentation on Smarter Work Zones via a live webinar on June 23rd from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Work Zones are responsible for over 130 injuries, one fatality, and 10 percent of all congestion each day. One option for addressing these issues is to implement Smarter Work Zones (SWZs). SWZs utilize innovative strategies to better coordinate construction projects and/or deploy innovative technology applications.

This webinar will present success stories from local agencies. It will also include discussions on planning and implementing SWZ within your region.

It will be held at 555 13th Street in Salem. Call the T2 Center to register.

Free Publications

The following publications are available from the T2 Center just for the asking. Call 503-986-2855 or email T2Center@odot.state.or.us if you would like us to send you either or both of these. You may order as many as you need. Available while supplies last.

imageW-Beam Guardrail Repair

Roadside barriers are a critical safety device, as they shield motorists from what might be a more severe crash when leaving the roadway. When damaged they need to be repaired so that they can perform this function. The purpose of this guide is to provide highway and maintenance personnel with information on how to repair damaged W-Beam guardrail, the most frequently used barrier system. Three levels of damage are described and guidance is provided on the need and procedure for appropriate repairs. Appendices provide information on the resources (equipment, tools, crew, and time) that will be needed and forms for inspection and maintenance. 2008.

imageMaintenance of Drainage Features for Safety

This guide was prepared to help local road agency maintenance workers understand the importance of maintaining and upgrading drainage features on their road system. Storm water that stands or ponds on the road surface and shoulders can contribute to crashes. It can cause hydroplaning under wet conditions and skidding under icing conditions. Water run-off can deteriorate the shoulder, sideslopes, and reduce the effectiveness of safety hardware (guardrails, sign posts, etc.) This guide identifies typical drainage problems and suggests corrective measures to improve safety. 2009.
