Rory,

I looked into this complaint and generally, there is a noise exemption for commercial/industrial businesses in the core area. Therefore, there is little help available to a person living above a bar. That said, I had Sgt. Shelly go by the Sundowner to talk with the manager to try and mediate. Sgt. Shelly was told that there is no one living in an apartment above the bar and they do not have a new sound system. At this point, I’m thinking it must be a different bar. Can you verify the information and narrow down where the issue might be occurring?

Hey Chief.

I just had something to run past you real quick. I have received noise complaints from a young lady that lives above the Sundowner Bar. She said that the bar has recently purchased a new sound system and every Friday and Saturday night, the noise has been unbearably loud, to the point that it has started knocking pictures off the walls of her apartment, and made it nearly impossible to sleep she says. She went and talked to the owner of the bar to see if he could turn it down, but she said his response was short tempered and he told her if she wanted it to be quieter, she shouldn’t live above a bar. She also told me that since she talked to him, the music has become louder.

I have been told by Darren as well as the new Director Jennifer that noise complaints should be enforced by the Police considering that I am only here from 7am till 4:30pm. She has called the police on many occasions as well as spoken to an officer about this matter but, from what she has told me, it seems that nobody has looked into it. I was just going to see what your thoughts were on this matter and maybe give me some insight into a possible resolution. Thanks for your time!
