Subject: League of Oregon Cities Drought Survey

Good morning,

This Legislative session has been unexpectedly dynamic in a number of areas, requiring the League to quickly reach out and survey our members several times in the last few weeks in order to obtain valuable and fundamental information. The fact that Oregon is facing one of its driest years on record creates another situation in which the League needs your help addressing some fundamental questions.

A governor-declared drought already exists in seven Oregon counties, and, on May 21, the Oregon Drought Council forwarded seven additional county drought requests to the governor for her approval. More requests are anticipated in the coming months.

Many of Oregon’s water users, including cities, will be impacted by the imminent water shortage. The League is participating in Governor Brown’s Drought Strategy Team to assess needs, identify challenges, advocate for conservation opportunities, and develop a strategy for effective communication and coordination among a variety of stakeholders.

Your participation in this survey will assist both the League and the Governor’s office in better understanding the water supply needs and challenges of Oregon communities and may influence policy discussions moving forward. This survey asks a number of questions regarding Water Management Conservation and Curtailment Plans, in addition to other basic information on rate structure and water conservation strategies. To assist in previewing the questions and participating in the survey, a Word version is attached, and both the link and Word version may be forwarded to the most appropriate person(s) to respond (please submit only one survey per city). The deadline is Friday, June 19th at 5:00pm.

Thank you in advance for your participation and for helping the League to advocate for and better address this critical issue.
