Have a call into John Darch at Goble Sampson on the issue now. Here’s a great link as well to reference various manufactures of equipment.

I would agree. You would think that a tank of that nature would have at least a 20 year +/- life expectancy based on what it is used for and the difficulty in replacement. I think a call to Gobal Sampson might be in order. Have you looked at the project specifications? What do they say warranty specific for the project and the tank in particular?

Hi Mark,

We did talk to the manufacturer, Westech, and the company wants to bill the City over $4000 for a site visit to diagnose the issue. I have some concerns that this failure is too premature.

Thanks,

Jenifer,

In going through the O&M’s about the only pertinent thing that I can find is where it states that the tank should not be set directly on a concrete pad without mastic paint or some other type of isolation barrier (note 2 on dwg D101) and again on sheet 15 of 48 in the O&M’s, note 1 states the tanks have been provided with a coat of mastic paint so they can set directly on concrete. That step may have been omitted on the one tank? Have a look it may be apparent by comparing the problem tank to the other three.

Regarding the warranty, I’m with you I did not see much there. Have you talked to the manufacturer? You might try and contact Goble Sampson. They are the local reps and you could apply a little owner pressure to get some representation. I’m sure they would love to work with you on the next addition on site. They’re a good company I have dealt with them in the past.

Hope I have helped a little bit. If you don’t get any traction from the manufacturer or the local rep let me know and we’ll have a look at what we can do to remedy the problem.

Hi Mark,

Attached is the O&M manual information I was able to find. It talks about a warrantee, but no specific information on what that is.

Jennifer,

Had a chance to look at the drawings a little. They did not tell me much more than the pictures. My suggestion at this point is to contact the manufacturer regarding the tank rusting to get a little more information on warranty and/or their suggested repair. At that point a visit makes a little more sense. We can have a look and discuss the manufacturer’s suggested fix or the possibility of repair or replacement.

If you don’t think that you are going to get any traction with the manufacturer let me know and I am more than willing to come out and discuss the options.

Thanks again,

Mark Gunderson

Hi Mark,

Here is email 1 of 2 of the plans, see Sheets 22, 33 & 36 for gravity filter & pad information. It appears each filter is 13.5’ in diameter and just over 12’ tall. I will send additional manufacturer information when available.

Please let me know when you’re available to make a site visit to the plant.

Thank you,
