Andy, It takes 1-55lbs box of Vitamin C ( Ascorbic Acid) to 1 foot of water. 1 Foot of water in the day tank is equivalent to 111.6 gals or 9.3 gallons per in. This make the concentration approximately 2.5 ppm Ascorbic acid to neutralize 1 ppm Chlorine. The current price of Vit.C as of 11-13-2018 is $4.48Lb/ 55Lbs box = $246.40/ Pallet = $8870.40 When we started up, we were using approximately 3 feet a day which equal 3 Boxes Ascorbic acid. $739.00( current price per Lbs.) a day. After we had fixed the line, we were using approximately 1 foot per day which equals 1 box Ascorbic acid. $246 a day. Although looking back through the first part of the 2018 winter discharge season DMS sheets ( Jan-May) we were using 170 gallons of Ascorbic acid per day. At this time that was 1 ½ boxes Ascorbic acid being used a per day. To say that we were using 3ft feet a day would be a little much. The Ascorbic acid line had been leaking for some time, but I don’t think to the extent that we saw in the video base on past records. At this time after fixing the leak I would say that were able to cut the Ascorbic acid use by ½ a box to ¾ of a box a day from the original use of 1 ½ boxes a day over last year winter discharge season, which would equate to a saving of $23k to $33K per discharge season (Nov.1-April.30) Jake Ehredt Lead WWTP Operator City of Molalla Cell 971-241-7547 Shop 503-829-5407 CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: The information contained in this email message, including any attachments, is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information. Looking at that video I’d say I see 12 drips at 1 drip per second, which is a daily waste of 103.68 gal, 3110.4 gal/month.
And given that, how much $$ do you think you just saved per month?

Here is the video I took at the DMS where the vitamin C is injected for De-chlorination. As you can see the line for the vitamin C has been leaking for some time.. This problem is now fixed
