That is a very interesting point. I reran the numbers based on that and we would not violate from December through March. I sent that info on. Let’s see if they can make anything stick. BTW, not sure if you know but we met with the head of DEQ a while back and may have made some headway. Cross your fingers.

Yeah, BOD and coliforms which have been less than 1 ppm. FYI, the DEQ has based our effluent pounds on 1.92 mgd of treated effluent. We have been treating 1 mgd more for the wet months.

(1.92mgd)(8.34lb/gal)(10mg/L max monthly average TSS)=160lb. I do not foresee the WWTP meeting permit conditions during the winter months until the effluent gallons increase. What I think the DEQ did was average all of the influent for the year instead of splitting the two; summer flows and winter flows. We essentially have two permits anyway.

(2.9mgd winter discharge)(8.34lb/gal)(10mg/L TSS)=242lb is where we’re at. We are already on pace to violate April

Thanks,

Jason

Got it thanks. I also gave the attorneys a breakdown of the violations and noted that we had no BOD violations that I could see. Funny folks get hung up on TSS and BOD is more important.

Subject: Notification of permit violations

Hi Jason,

Every time we have a permit violation we have stipulated payments to make within a specified time. If we don’t, we have to pay additional penalties. At the end of each reporting period, please let me know via email if we passed or did not pass the permit requirements. That way I can stay on top of it with everything else going on. Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.
