Hi Bob,

Westech still wanted to charge us a fee to do the investigation. We have gone another direction and are now working with a filter company who will be out soon to assess the filters. Once we know the issue, I plan to gather quotes for repairs and media replacement.

Jennifer,

I’m not surprised about the limited warrantee. However, once we start, we will want to discuss with Westech just to to pick their brains on approaches to the issues. Most likely, they have run across this before.

Thanks, BobS

Hi Bob,

Attached is the warrantee info and additional info in regards to the placement of the filter tanks.

In regards to the warrantee, it looks like it expired within a year of startup or 18 months from shipment. The additional info is in regards to the notes and specification for installing the tanks on directly on the concrete pads. The two seem to contradict themselves. At this time, I am unsure if the tanks had a coat of mastic paint or not. I’m also unsure if this is the issue we are seeing.

Thanks,

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the work order and prompt correspondence. I am still gathering some final information on the warrantee to verify if we are covered for any part of the repairs, generally speaking. Once I have all the information gathered I will let you know how we want to proceed.

Regards,

Jennifer,

As discussed, I have prepared a work order to assist you with developing some options and costs. We should approach this one step at a time.

Additional assistance with project management & bidding can be performed, once we settle on a course of action.

Please review the attached Work Order and let me know if this works for you.

Thanks, BobS

Hi Bob,

I have attached all sections of the Westech Gravity Filters O&M manual, with exception to the Accessory Equipment section. I do not see any information anywhere on warrantee, which I would expect it to be found here.

Jennifer,

The problem you’re having seems to be fairly common with steel tanks, but not usually this soon. They were installed in or about 2007, correct?

Traditionally, the sand is vacuumed out and the inside inspected. If the structure is found to be sturdy enough, seals are replaced, surface sanded down, patched, and re-coated.

Newer materials, such as Composite Fiberglass Tanks may be cost-effective, especially if more than one is leaking.

More soon, Thanks, BobS

Jennifer,

Questions:

1. What is your current & projected wastewater flow?

2. The 2007 design shows a Peak Day Flow Design capacity of 8.5 MGD for 2015, with planned capacity of 10.3 MGD by 2025. Were all components for 2025 constructed?

3. Are you currently meeting your effluent quality limits?

4. Are there leaks from only 1 of the Sand Filters or more?

Thanks, BobS

Hi Bob,

Here are a few photos of the area around the gravity filter, just after the leak was discovered.

Hi,

Per our phone conversation, attached is the full plan set of the WWTP Improvements made in 2007. These plans include the construction of the sand filters. Filter #1 is in need of the repairs.
