I will check Whitney to see if they carry the same model for a price comparison. Lab invoices are in the shared drive under external lab reports. The quote shows all of the lab work we can do; TKN, NO2, NO3, Phosphorous, Alkalinity. We already do Ammonia, BOD TSS, E. Coli, Temps, pH, Chlorine Residual and Dechlor Residual. An annual cost saving shouldn’t take long. As far as the testing of the former we don’t do, it usually only take 15-30 minutes to allow reagent to react to sample like we do now with the ammonia (20 minutes) and let the spectrophotometer read the vial. Can’t answer why some tests were contracted out. My guess would be convenience? Short staffing? Lack of proper equipment?

Thanks for the information. You might also want to see if Whitney Equipment Co. offers a spectrophotometer as well for a comparable quote. We don’t have to go to council with this item, however Dan will want to see at least one other.

Do you guys have records of the invoices for the labs. Or what labs specifically we would be able to keep in house. I would like to see the annual cost saving to keep the work in house. Is this a time consuming task? I’m just curious why we decided to send the testing out?

One last question, is this something we need to run by or notify David Cole at DEQ?

Ms. Cline,

Here is a quote for a new spectrophotometer that will allow us to do more testing in house that will in the long run save money. Big cost up front, though. I’ve personally used these test vials and trained my previous operators on how to perform the tests as well. Please view when you have some free time.

Thanks,

Jason
