Hi Jennifer,
The reducer will get to our fab shop today, hopefully they will be able to repair it and get it headed to our Vancouver branch tomorrow afternoon. We probably won’t end up seeing it in Vancouver until Monday or so.
Right now the problem is the 24” DIPS electrofusion coupler. We have one in our system I thought I could use but it turns out it’s getting installed this Friday. The closest I can find is in GA, I’ll see if we can get one sent here for arrival in Vancouver next Tuesday or so. As soon as we know for sure when we have all the pieces in hand I’ll let you know when we can be out to install.

Seth is picking up a piece of 24” DIPS DR9 to repair the reducer on his way back to Vancouver from Molalla. If the timing works out perfectly he will be able to get them both headed to the fabricators tonight. I’ll let you know if they make it out tonight.

Remember when I said 24” DIPS isn’t real common around here? Our fab guys don’t have any in stock. On the bright side, I think I’ve found some on a job near Portland, my contact is checking to see if they can spare a couple feet. I should hear back from him by the end of the day. That being said, I think getting it finished by Wednesday is a little optimistic.

That will be no problem if we need to move the 8in valve. If you are asking if we can remove the 8 in valve entirely the answer is no. I have to have that valve to isolate riser heads for our irrigation lines.

Now that we know what we’re dealing with, I can call the fab guys and see how fast they can do it.
Looks like the HDPE in the ground is 8” DIPS and 24” DIPS PE3408 DR11 which has a pressure rating of 160 PSI. Industry standard for HDPE currently is PE4710 which has a DR11 pressure rating of 200 PSI. We can design the new reducer accordingly.
Can we remove the 8” valve if we need to? Based on the lay length of the 24” tee, the 24” coupler, the 24x8” reducer and the 8” valve we may want to plan on being able to move the valve down the 8” line a foot or so in case we don’t have enough room between the existing tee and the new reducer. The only extra parts we would need are an 8” DIPS electrofusion coupler and gaskets.

I spoke with Jake this morning. He informed me that the pressure leaving the plant from the effluent pump station is 105 psi. With a 25% FOS that would be 131 psi. However, I think I found the info you’re looking for. See attached, and let me know?
Also here are the measurements Jake made in the field today:
· 25.95” OD
· 9.10” OD
· 1.03” – from 90-deg “T” to 8” flange on valve

I don’t see anything on the docs you sent that gives us a clue as to the design pressure. Can you talk to your engineering people and see what pressure rating they need? The two most common types of HDPE are DR17 (125 PSI) and DR11 (200 PSI) but depending on what pressure the system was designed for it could be from DR32.5 (63 PSI) to DR7.3 (317 PSI).
If you can find a print line on the pipe it would be helpful but it’s old enough it may be long gone. The only other thing we could do is to disassemble some part of the system to get the wall thickness of the HDPE and work the pressure rating out from there.

I’ll take a look at the design data tomorrow when I get to the shop (too hard to see on my little screen at home).
Based on the new pics I’m guessing the tee and reducer were built as one unit at the fitting manufacturer and not put together in the field. We may not be able to blame the contractor. J
Based on the color of the backing ring on the 8”, I’m guessing it’s IPS instead of DIPS (IPS is usually red, DIPS is usually blue). We should still put an OD tape on it to confirm.
I’ll get back to you after I look at the docs you sent relating to the design pressure for my best guess.

When your guys get the pipe between the 90 and the reducer exposed, we need to get an OD tape on both pipe sizes. I noticed the drawing says 24” DIPS which is fairly uncommon around here, usually we use IPS pipe.
24” DIPS is 25.80” OD, 24” IPS is 24.00” OD.
8” DIPS is 9.05” OD, 8” IPS is 8.625” OD.
It’s important to verify what the pipe OD’s are and what the pressure rating needs to be so we can have everything built correctly.
