Gerald,

I spoke with Eric at Bryant Power Services, he told me that generally the transfer switch is usually the most reliable part of the system and that the failure may be caused by the loss of a phase of power but given the age of the unit it may be hard to prove. I also spoke with Eric from Cherry City Electric and asked him if he thought this failure would be due to a power surge and he said that it is most likely due to the age of the equipment. I will forward the repair quote when I receive it.

Hi Ryan,

Can you confirm with Bryant that the power surge fried the automatic transfer switch? Thanks.

Subject: WTP Generator Transfer Switch

Gerald,

As you know we had some issues with the generator power on Thursday. After some diagnosing on Thursday afternoon we found out that the failure is at our Automatic transfer switch for the backup Generator. The Internals of the transfer switch have malfunctioned. At this time the only way to switch over from utility power to generator power is to physically manipulate the transfer switch assembly. In order to do this we will need to contact Bryant Power Services to do the transfer in the event of an outage. I just spoke to Eric at Bryant Power Services and we have three options.

1. New Transfer Switch $6985.00 and set up (4 weeks out).

2. New Contactor assembly $6746 and set up (4 weeks out).

3. Removal of the contactor assembly to diagnose the issue at the shop, if we remove the transfer switch to do this we will have no way to transfer to our generator while the unit is out. $90hr +parts.

Shop rate is $90 and hour. We can also arrange a separate portable generator onsite if needed.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed. I believe the best option would be New transfer switch assembly.
