Subject: Sweeper on Thursdays

Importance: Normal

Folks, the City is receiving calls about the street sweeper coming around on Thursdays, which is also Garbage day. There is no way to avoid it this time of year (October – February). The only option would be to not sweep on Thursdays, or at least Thursday Mornings. But this would reduce our effective haul-rate by 10%-20% during the months of October-February, which we simply can’t afford. Operationally, we might make the sweeper avoid sweeping Lexington Estates on Thursday, but that would just mean they sweep Toliver Estates on Thursday instead. And even that option would only be possible if the sweeper had no issues and was able to stay on schedule.

We have only a single sweeper, and promising the sweeper will be in a certain neighborhood on a certain day is not possible like it is for the Garbage Fleet who runs 40 trucks.

Also, whenever we do speak to someone about this issue, we might consider taking the opportunity to remind them to ask their neighbors not to blow their leaves into the street for the sweeper, which is against City Ordinance. This slows the machine down significantly, putting us even further behind.

Respectfully,

Andy Peters
