Attachments: StreetSweepingRoutes.png; Folks, With regard to sweeping streets in Molalla it’s important to note that we can’t give an exact date when we will be sweeping a certain street like Garbage Trucks can. Often we can’t even tell customers an exact week. The reason for this is mostly due to having only a single Sweeper. This causes two interesting Operational conditions that can’t be avoided: 1) suppose I’m scheduled to sweep street A on Monday, street B on Tuesday, and street C on Wednesday but my machine breaks down on Monday (like it did this week!). I get my machine fixed by Wednesday…but where do I start sweeping, street A? Or C? Neither choice allows us to give service on the date promised. 2) suppose I’ve promise customers in Zone A of the town that their Sweeping Service will be the first week of the month, and Zone B gets hit on the second week of the month. Well, in April Zone A may only takes 4 day to sweep so it's no problem. But in October when the leaves fall it takes 8 days. So I can't promise a simple rule to customers like "your street is the first week of the month". That said, it’s my job to ensure things are managed in the most effective manner possible given the industrial engineering limitations just described. Therefore, the best we can promise to customers is the schedule below, referencing the map attached. We need to reserve the right to alter this schedule if we find better ways, run in to seasonal variability (early/late or heavy/light Autumns), equipment malfunctions, or emergency work eats up crew capacity and leaves us without sufficient time to complete routes.
