Gerald, unless we get VERY lucky and find the broken wire right at the junction box, it’s likely we’ll be exposing the 14” steel water line on Freyer Park Road at Adams Cemetery, in order to fix the thermite weld for our Cathodic Protection wires. The full instruction set is in the work order below. I’m letting you know because digging up a transmission line is a big deal, so making sure the City Engineer get a chance to speak up. The Upshot is we’ll get a very good look at pipe condition, information Dyer can use for the master plan.

We’ll probably do this either July 10, or the week of July 22nd. Let me know if you think of anything you wish to see that I might have forgotten.

NEW WO#6806 [Utility_Crew]: requested by apeters. Promise Date: 7/10/2019 12:00:00 AM

We are going to attempt a repair of the negative lead going to the 14" steel line on Freyer Park at Adams Cemetery Road. The bill of materials for this job is on order, and is as follows:

#1 Wire, No. 8 AWG HMWPE CP matls 40 ft. $ 16.80

#2 Thermite weld sleeve, CAB-133-1L matls 5 ea. $ 3.50

#3 Thermite weld, CA-15 matls 5 ea. $ 7.42

#4 Thermite welder, CAHAA-1L matls 1 ea. $ 47.68

#5 Igniter matls 1 ea. $ 11.34

#6 Handi-Cap IP matls 2 ea. $ 10.64

#7 Rubber Spicing Tape, Scotch 130C matls 1 roll $ 15.05

#8 Vinyl Tape, Scotch 33+ matls 1 roll $ 5.18

Two No. 6 AWG wires should be thermite welded to the pipeline below grade (see attached sketch) then routed to the existing below grade junction box, where they may be connected to the new rectifier negative lead.

There is extremely busy underground on Freyer Park Road's shoulder, so if we can't dig the steel water line up here we'll need to notify Steve Coleman: cell 509-970-2502 that we'll be working within our easement just on the North Side of the Fence at Adams Cemetery Rd, and ask what we may need to do to restore pasture after we dig.

Two new cables should be thermite welded to the pipeline, with the connections connected 12” apart. Each weld shall be coated with a mastic coating patch. The cables should then be routed with 24” minimum cover in to the existing below grade junction box. Provide 24” of slack wire at the pipe connection and slack to at least 24” above grade at the junction box. Attachhed is detail explaining the weld from Farwest, and a sketch of the site. We can either do this weld ourselves, have Peterkin help us, or have John Keppler with Farwest return to do it for us. John is the Principal Corrosion Engineer

T: (425) 290-8832; M: (425) 501-3401; jkeppler@farwestcorrosion.com; He would be available Wednesday, July 10, or any time AFTER the week of July 15th.

Once the pipeline is exposed let's be sure to document the folloiwng:

1. a quick condition assessment should be made as to the condition of the coating and the pipe.

2. Note the percentage of coating damage if any,

3. coating type and

4. adhesion where removed for wire connections (3” x 3” square).

5. If pitting exists, note the size and depth of pitting.

6. If the equipment is available, record ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurements on the pipe wall.

7. Take photos.

Our survey of the above 7 items will go to Dyer for the Master Plan.
