We may have to going forward since I can’t find the old language that left that as a loop hole in our code. Those who are using wells now and have complied with the backflow requirement can remain in place for now. Redevelopment of a site will likely cause the removal of all wells and force the property to only use City water. Will look into this further as time goes on.

Feel free to search our municipal code with other key words to see if anything is lingering in other locations. Thanks.

Gerald,

You told me previously that we would allow a resident to keep their wells for irrigation only if they added a backflow device. Have you changed your direction on this?

FYI. Referenced to the use of a well have disappeared in the search function. I will have to add something in section 13 for those who are in the City but do not have access to City waterlines in front of their property or within a certain distance.

Ryan and Jeff,

The use of wells for irrigation appears to have been removed from the code. The only reference I can find related to this is the following:

13.04.050 Use of water.

The City shall furnish water for ordinary domestic, business and community use and for such sprinkling, irrigation, industrial, commercial and firefighting purposes as the system may reasonably supply and as may be approved by the Council. (Ord. 1976-3 §5)

We furnish water via the drinking water system so wells appear to be no longer allowed for that use in the City limits or for irrigation purposes. It may have been part of the old development code that was replaced by the new development code. You typically see wells in the water section of the code but I could not find anything other than the section listed above.

Most agencies are now removing the use of wells within the City limits to protect aquifer for potential future City use.

Gerald,

Does the City allow for Irrigation wells inside the City? We will add the backflow device to our list to be tested but I wasn’t sure if this was allowed.

The owner at 1221 W Main installed a back flow device to their irrigation well this month. They have a ROW permit and a county plumbing permit. This is to add to the yearly check list.
