Gerald,

FYI, here is the response from the OHA. We will just continue to sample for Crypto when the sample Kit arrives on April 3rd. The results for today’s test will be in tomorrow. These test are for Total Coliforms and E. coli. I will let you know those results when we get them. After looking through our records I have not seen any other reports of Cryptosporidium in our drinking water. After reviewing OHA website I see that Health Care Providers are required to notify the local health department within one working day if cryptosporidium is found.

Ryan,

Here’s a lab list for you from our website.

There is one in Oregon that’s accredited for Crypto. testing. You can consult with them about any questions.

(Our office did allow for E. coli to be a surrogate during the LT2 testing, but it seems that would be unhelpful in your case.)

I know that on the outside chance that you find any Crypto in your water sample, the lab can sometimes ‘type’ it further to determine where that species of Crypto. usually resides. Like Cow Crypto (known to be infectious), vs. squirrel Crypto (not yet known to be infectious).

That’s perhaps TMI, and highly unlikely, but you never know. Of course the lab can tell you more.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Best,

Pete

p.s. I heard that the tri-county area was notified they should test for Crypto now for sick folks matching the GI illness symptoms. So I presume that’s why the Dr. tested for it.
