Hi Nicolas,

There are no requirements in the Public Works Standards regulating the type of material for a driveway outside of the public right-of-way. The apron or approach in the right-of-way must be concrete meeting Public Works standards. With that said, the development code should provide guidance and in this case it doesn’t. Unless the development approval specifically states that the driveways on private property be made of concrete, then the requirement should be that it is made of concrete, asphalt, paver, some other drivable surface, or combination would dictate the materials required. My only requirement is that whatever material is used it can not run off into the street or cause a stormwater issue that would violate our permit with DEQ. Concrete, asphalt, pavers, or combination thereof should be fine.  Have a safe and happy 4th weekend.

Subject: Driveway- Asphalt? 718 Toliver Dr.

Gerald,

This gentleman would like to pave his driveway with asphalt. I couldn’t find standards for single-family dwellings in the development code, perhaps they are located in the public works standards? It requires sign-off from the PW Director, but no permit is required.

Let me know if I can help.
