Subject: Molalla illegal discharge into Molalla River: Questions for DEQ

Importance: Normal

Attachments: wastewater sign.jpg;

Dear Tiffany, Joni, and Nina,

When I talked to Tiffany on Friday. Sept 14, she said Molalla had contacted DEQ because it was going to begin illegal wastewater discharge into the Molalla River - before the legal Nov.1 date in its permit because the lagoons were full and the fields too saturated - but that Molalla was supposedly preparing the water to be of the standard necessary for the illegal premature discharge. Today the attached photo was posted on the Molalla Now facebook page - a citizen had visited the Molalla River by the highway 211 bridge downstream from the discharge pipe and found this sign.

I don't participate on that page and the people are clearly confused, as I am, about why this new alarming sign has been posted.

Is the illegally discharged water up to river discharge standards?

Is it too warm for the river? Is the river high enough for discharge?

Why has this new sign been posted, what makes the water of the Molalla River too dangerous for contact?

What about the fish and the animals that use the Molalla River?

Is DEQ going to notify the people of Molalla about why this sign at a popular place for accessing the Molalla River is posted?

DEQ failed in the past to notify about the EColi contaminated Creamery Creek. People deserve to understand exactly why this sign is posted.
