Subject: MOLALLA COMPLAINT: No filing by Molalla for 2017 PSU Population Report

Importance: Normal

DEQ,

In documents obtained via public records requests, Molalla, via Ring Bender, agrees to use official PSU population estimates for wastewater infrastructure management and planning. Our complaint is that Molalla has failed to respond to PSU in a timely manner to report accurate population growth for 2017.

Yesterday, Nov. 15, PSU posted the 2017 estimates. Charles Rynerson, PSU staff (contact below) confirmed on the phone that Molalla HAD NOT SUBMITTED THE REQUIRED INFORMATION for the 2017 estimate and thus PSU simply posts the 2016 population instead of updated population figures for the City of Molalla.

Cities that failed to respond in a timely manner to PSU's report form can still update their population by using the report form and submitting the required information by Dec. 15, 2017. If DEQ is going to engage with Molalla regarding wastewater issues it needs to direct Molalla to provide accurate, updated population information via the PSU report form (available on the PSU population projection site in case Molalla has "misplaced" it).

Population figures are also used for distribution of funds and loans, per the PSU population website (link below):

“These estimates are used by the state and local governments, various organizations and agencies for revenue sharing, funds allocation, and planning purposes.”

Please instruct Molalla to update its population projection via the 2017 PSU annual report form by Dec 15, 2017 so state agency interaction on wastewater management, planning, and financing issues can be as accurate as possible.

Sincerely,

Susan Hansen
