The attached emails are your original follow up question and my first response. So the volume into Bear Creek was (209 gpm)(180 min) – 22,800 g = 14,820 g, right? Strandberg; Dan Huff Subject: RE: Molalla CCB overflow 9-6-17 calculations. Dave, It took an hour + for the effluent to crest the CCB walls and out the storm drain; hence, 180 minutes. Industrial Systems arrived 9/14/17 and found our dialer had a mass communications error; there is no repairing this failure. A new one was ordered 9/15/17 and will be installed this week. It was also determined that the pressure transducer in the Effluent Pump Station failed; a new sonar level probe was ordered 9/12/17 and will be installed as soon as it it delivered and my electrician can schedule time. Strandberg <mstrandberg@ringbenderlaw.com>; YELTON-BRAM Tiffany <tiffany.yelton-bram@state.or.us> Subject: Molalla CCB overflow 9-6-17 calculations. Hello Jason. I just got done reviewing your calculations and had the following questions related to this part of the 5-day report: A four hour event is equal to 240 minutes, not 180 minutes. Even if the event was three hours in duration, the total would be 14,820 gallons, not 15,620 gallons. According to the first page of the report, the event lasted from 02:32 to 06:52, which is 4-hours and 20 minutes, or 260 minutes. So, substituting this duration of time, the corrected total would be: (209 gpm)(260 min) = 54,340, and subtracting the backwash volume, the net should be 54,340 g – 22,800 g = 31,540 gallons. You also said Industrial Systems was to have examined the SCADA system on 9/13/17. Please share with us the results of their findings. Also, please review my calculations for correctness. Thank you. -----Original Message----- From: Mark P. Hey Jason. It occurs to me that since you normally don't dechlorinate before land applying the treated wastewater, the volume that got to Bear Creek probably had a high chlorine residual. Did you take any samples so we have an idea of what the chlorine concentration was in the water that went to Bear Creek? If no samples, then please estimate the likely chlorine concentration in the water that went to Bear Creek. Thanks. Approximately 125000 gallons of treated effluent drained into Bear Creek. I have yet to determine the cause of the failures. If a determination is found, it will be noted on the spill report that will be submitted within the (5) day period. This is our 24 hour notice. If you have any questions, please contact me.
