Lighting is part of my ARTS project and we are going to deliver it once I get the agreement in place which I have been waiting for from ODOT. We have ODOT money to pay for this. Please tell PD it is in process and as soon as I get ODOT to move then we will work on that first. Will talk when I get back.

NO. ODOT needs to take responsibility for the safety issues. We need to keep feeding them the issues that arise.

Subject: Hezzie Crosswalk Lighting

Gentleman, I am aware that lighting at the Crosswalk at Hezzie Lane is part of next year’s ODOT project. However since we’ve been having so much trouble at that intersection, Lt Long has been putting officers out there each morning. As it’s gotten darker, and usage of the new crosswalk has increased (because there is one there now!), officers are reporting the dark crosswalk is becoming a serious issue.

I asked PGE for options and they have no problem installing some 88W LEDs in either or both of the locations shown in the image attached. 88W should light us up to ISE standards without bothering nearby residents. There would be no cost to the City, just the monthly streetlight added to the bill (negligible).

The reason I bring this up is

(1) It’s possible the Odot project could take longer than expected and even though we’ve promised lighting we might now be able to deliver (due to Odot).

(2) The cost is minimal, so even as temporary lighting to be replaced by the odot project I see no reason NOT to do what the officers are requesting.

(3) If ODOT gets nasty during the project next year, and we’ve already got lights in there, we could yank that portion of the project from them and demand a deduct. Not a really big Ace in the hole, but better than nothing.

My question is: would you guys approve us to juts go ahead and take care of this? We wouldn’t even involve ODOT, we’d let PGE get the permit.

Thanks for considering!

Respectfully,

Andy Peters
