We had a noise complaint early this morning from a neighbor on Ridings. The noise turned out to be the early 0600 start-up of the Pacific Fibre Products facility. I dropped in on the manager (Bob Merchant) of the fibre plant to talk with him regarding the complaint. I knew the business to be very concerned about being good neighbors and also good for our economy. I also knew they were exempt from the noise restrictions by code and could run 24/7 if they wanted. I asked him to consider delaying their 6 am start-up until 7, which would make them compliant with most noise ordinances in most cities.

The plant manager ( Bob Merchant) couldn’t have been more receptive to working together and quickly contacted his HR folks at the main headquarters. Within about an hour, I spoke to the manager again and he informed me they would be changing their start-up time to 7 effective tomorrow morning. The also agreed to leave the shut-down time at 9 pm, which is generous to livability by 1 hour. This was a great result for everyone.
